🧱 Materials: Products & Components

In Reduzer, all Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) calculations are built upon two fundamental concepts: Products (the raw data) and Components (the assemblies used in your building model). Understanding how these are managed ensures accurate and efficient calculation.

🗂️ The Component and Product Library

The library acts as your single source for all environmental data, which is divided into three levels of accessibility:

  • Global Library: Contains approximately 15,000 data points, including official Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), Reduzer Average Values, and generic industry data. This library is maintained by the Reduzer team and cannot be edited by users.

  • Company Library: A shared space for your organization to save and reuse custom component assemblies for collaborative projects.

  • My Components: Your personal workspace for creating and saving your own components.

You can either create custom components from scratch or duplicate an item from the Global Library into your personal or company library to edit its details. If a specific EPD is missing, you can add it yourself or submit a request to our support team.

♻️ Product Origin and Circularity

For each product within a component, you must define its Product Origin. This selection is crucial as it determines which life cycle phases are included in your project’s final carbon calculation.

Product OriginDefinitionCalculation Impact
🧱 NewA completely new material is used.Emissions from all relevant life cycle phases (A1-A3, A5, C) are calculated.
♻️ ReusedMaterial is sourced from a separate, older building (e.g., salvaged windows).Only 20% of A1-A3 emissions are included. Transport for future replacements is also accounted for.
🏛️ Existing KeptMaterial from the current building is retained and kept in place (e.g., in a refurb).Zero initial transport emissions (A4). Only use phase (B) and end-of-life (C) emissions are included.
🗑️ Existing WasteMaterial from the current building is demolished and removed from the site.Only emissions from demolition and waste transport (A5/C) are calculated.

Data Quality and Compliance

Reduzer uses the selected certification scheme to apply necessary data adjustments automatically, ensuring your project meets specific compliance standards.

TEK17 Compliance: For projects requiring TEK17 documentation, all generic values (e.g., Reduzer Average Values, custom studies) automatically receive a 25% uplift on their A1-A3 emissions. You do not need to add this manually.

BREEAM-NOR: Reduzer is an approved LCA tool for BREEAM. The platform calculates multiple indicators relevant to BREEAM, such as GWP, Use of Secondary Material, and Circularity.
