🚗 Travel Module: Operational Mobility (B8)

The Travel Module in Reduzer is essential for quantifying greenhouse gas emissions from the long-term mobility needs of a building's users. These emissions are calculated under the life cycle phase B8 (Transport/Mobility during the use phase).

This calculation is critical for projects seeking to meet specific climate goals or compliance schemes (like FutureBuilt), which mandate the assessment of user travel.

✍️ Data Input for Operational Mobility

Manual Input Required

Emissions related to people's travel to and from the building (Phase B8) are not automatically included in any version. This is because mobility data must be specific to the project's location and intended use. Therefore, this data must be manually added in the Energy section of your project.

  • Required Data: You need to input the relevant transport energy figures (e.g., car usage, public transport), which are usually derived from a project-specific travel survey or official data.

  • Location Specificity: The calculation should ideally reflect location-specific data, such as distance to public transit, cycling infrastructure, and anticipated car use.

⚙️ Calculations and System Boundaries

The inclusion and method for calculating B8 are governed by your chosen certification scheme.

Scheme Dependency is key: Operational mobility (B8) is only calculated if it is included within your chosen scheme's system boundary.

  • For instance, if you select a subscheme that focuses only on materials (like "Ground and foundations" for FutureBuilt ZERO), B8 will not be included.
  • You must select a comprehensive scheme option (like "ZERO v3 - Alt inkludert") for B8 to be counted.

The total calculated emissions for human travel are then reflected in your results under the B8 phase.

🚀 Future Development

The Reduzer team is continually working to improve the accuracy of the mobility module. We plan to integrate site-specific Reisevaneundersøkelse (RVU) data to provide more granular, location-based mobility calculations in the future.
